CollegeLife

A place to grow spiritually and connect relationally.

Fellowship Evangelical Free Church, Knoxville, TN

This week we are starting a new series in CollegeLife: The Bucket List.   There’s a movie out about two older men who have a list of things that they want to accomplish before they “kick the bucket”- hence the name, The Bucket List.  But Hollywood poses a great question for you and me, What’s our bucket list? What is something that you want to accomplish before you die? What’s something you dream of doing?

What if we narrowed down the question- not just your life, but this year!? What’s something you really want to happen THIS year? More specificially we are going to discuss spiritual disciplines! Where would they be on a list of things you desire to see happen IN you this year? On your list are there things like scripture memory? Authentic community?  Come the next two weeks as we discuss “The Bucket List”.

We’re Back

clgrass.JPGWe’re back! This Sunday Night at 7pm at the church! We’ll meet in the 600 rooms for some games, songs and introduction to the semester of CollegeLife.  We are meeting at the church so it is convenient for everyone and you can bring plenty of friends to find out more about CollegeLife! NEXT week we’ll be back at Greenbrier! There is a lot of stuff planned for the semester so come on out and get involved from the start! See you Sunday!

Happy New Year

happy_new_year_by_clwoods.jpg Happy 2008.  Hope you had a wonderful break from classes, studying, the library, your dorm room and were able to relax and eat some good food.

Wanted to let you know we are back Sunday January 13th at 7pm AT THE CHURCH!!! We are going to kick off the year at the church so people who aren’t familiar with our normal location (Greenbrier Rigde) can find us !  So see you Sunday Night at 7pm in the 600 wing - to the left of the worship center.

And the next night, Monday the 14th, Crossroad will kick off again.

See you round.

Hey Folks.

Thanks for a great evening in the midst of exams.  Hopefully it gave you some time to relax, hang out with friends, have some good eats and dominate some Christmas pictionary. It was good to see some real creativity. Have fun with exams and have an amazing Christmas.

It’s hard to believe, but it’s true- it’s Christmas season!

This Sunday we are having CollegeLife at our normal place and time: 7pm at Greenbrier Clubhouse. Our topic is “Silent Night- When God seems silent”  Because the truth is many times Silent night is much more than a Christmas song, it seems to describe our spiritual life.  You’ll want to be there.

Next Sunday the 9th we are having our annual Ugly Sweater Christmas Party! at the Neely’s House.  You can get directions on the “directions” tab above, or I will have maps on Sunday! It will be from 7-9pm.  Food, fun, ugly sweaters and Christmas movies.  It should be a good break during exams.

See you this weekend.

Smores and Hot Dogs

We had a great night on the hill Sunday Night as we had a relaxed night of cooking hot dogs, smores and just enjoying a fire.  Thanks to everyone who came out.  Remember there is no CollegeLife Sunday because of Thanksgiving Break.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

Hot Dogs and Smores!

smores.jpgWe are having a special collegelife this weekend to get you ready for Thanksgiving break.  Sunday night we will meet at the church instead of Greenbrier, we’ll have fire, hot dogs and of course- smores!!! We’ll start at 6pm, but feel free to come throughout the evening.

Stress Test

stresstest.jpgLast night we talked about it being “that time of year.” Your final projects are due, one more presentation, finals, shopping for Christmas, going home for a season, dealing with family issues, $$, and the list goes on.  Simply put- stress can be high!

The truth is that during stressful times we see what kind of person we really are.  Just like when you squeeze a stress ball it stretches and expands- when we are put through stressful situations we are stretched and people see what kind of person we are.

Jesus promises us that we will have trouble (John 16:33), but he also says we can take heart and have peace “in Him” because He has overcome the world. How would it affect your circumstances this week to know Jesus has overcome your situation and whatever has you stressed out?

It’s interesting that Jesus says find peace IN HIM.  Not in a break, or a promotion, or money, or a relationship, but in HIM.  As we approach the end of the semester don’t seek peace in your circumstances, seek peace in Him.

Sanctity of Life

sanctityoflife.jpg

In case you missed the last 3 weeks in CollegeLife we just wrapped up a series on “The Sanctity of Life” led by Greg Bock.

The issues were tough, there were not and are not easy answers, but great discussion was had and we were forced to examine our beliefs.  We looked at abortion and the right to life, we touched on physician assisted suicide and other matters at the end of life and finally we looked at ethical treatment of animals.

We stood hard by the fact that extreme cases make bad laws, and the sanctity of life should be our guiding principle in these tough situations.

Thanks to Greg for leading a great series.
Hope to see you Sunday.

Don’t forget in two weeks we are having a hot dog and smores night at 6pm at the church.  Bring a friend.
