• I’m sitting at my “new” place to have my personal time with God. It’s an absolutely great day. Cool, overcast- perfect for sitting outside and just being with Jesus through prayer and the scripture.
I will be the first to admit that my schedule affords me more flexibility to create space for moments like this, but I still have to ask the question- where do you spend time with Jesus?
I’m not talking about the shower, small group, crossroad. I’m not even talking about listening to a podcast- just you and Jesus- where does that happen? When does that happen?
“but I’ve got finals” “this is my last week with my friends before we leave for the summer” “I’m not a quiet person” “I spend my time in the car (really- imagine if the only date you went on were car rides to and from places, probably wouldn’t cut it)
These are all true, but there is something else true about all of them- they are excuses.
I don’t want there to be guilt over this, but I do want to challenge you. Find a place. Find a time. And then fight to keep your appointment with Jesus.
I promise you will not meet with anyone more important today. Promise.

  • I’m not sure if you have heard about this, but apparently during the Miss USA pageant, Carrie Prejean (Miss California) was asked if she approved of gay marriage by one of the judges, Perez Hilton. For those of you who don’t know who that is, he’s a celebrity blogger. He’s also openly gay.

So he asks Prejean this: “Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?”

And she answers honestly. She disagrees with gay marriage. Hilton has expressed that he is really disturbed by her answer and that she should have left her political and religious beliefs out of things.

My frustration is this: If she had said she was supportive of gay marriage, would that not have also been a political statement? It would also have been a religious statement, as many people base their acceptance of gay marriage on love-based spiritual beliefs.

The only way to be neutral would have been to say something like, “I don’t have an opinion one way or the other.” But then, that’s not really a good answer to a direct question, now is it?

MSNBC writes: “I want [a Miss USA] who is going to be politically savvy, and that means saying things that will make everyone feel welcome,” Hilton told Lauer. “She’s a Christian, but I don’t want her talking about Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, because that’s offensive to all of the Jewish Americans, all the Muslim Americans, to all the atheist Americans.”

Hilton even told Matt Lauer that she could have easily danced around the issue instead of giving a divisive answer. Um, wait a minute, he wanted her to skirt around the issue? Why ask the question?

Personally, I don’t want a Miss USA that is dishonest, nor do I want one that skirts issues when asked for her opinion. Last time I checked, that’s not what most of us consider good role-model behavior.

  • Our very old (read: new) tradition of meeting at Calhoun’s pre-Crossroad continues Monday night. Meet at the Calhoun’s at Bearden Hill at 6:30. If you are coming, please leave a comment on the blog so we know how many people to make a reservation for! See you there.

  • I love being a Christian. Jesus really is awesome. He’s worthy of reverence, to be sure, but I just love it when people get excited about him and lose a bit of the holy voice, you know what I mean? Jesus isn’t this old, stuffy notion that we get out on Sundays and only talk about in hushed tones. He’s real. He’s alive. And he’s really very cool.

I don’t know much about Steve Harvey’s spiritual walk, but I thought this video of how he’d introduce Jesus was awesome.

  • CollegeLife is basically a mini mall.

If you are majoring in advertising…PLEASE don’t EVER make a commercial like this. You will not surpass the genius of this “spot”.

That’s right, girls, it’s time for Big Group again. This event is from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the address listed on the logo.

For those of you who don’t know, Big Group is a time for college-aged girls at Fellowship to meet each other, eat some snacks, and get connected with each other. We know that Fellowship is a big church, and Big Group is just one way of making it smaller. So come one, come all, and invite your lady-friends from Fellowship! No boys allowed (they would eat all our yummy snacks!).

Check out this event on the Facebook CollegeLife fan page and spread the word (and RSVP if you think about it).

We are typically really bad at being “processors”.  We have created machines that do that for us. We don’t put alot of extra thoughts into things.  If you ask someone, “why do you say that” “why did you do that”, etc… normally their response will be something like, “i don’t know.”

I’m not sure that “i don’t know” is the untrue or shallow answer, as much as it is simply how we have been programmed to think.

    How was Easter? “Good”  Why?

    I don’t know…

The music was good? The sermon was different? Family? But in all of those answers, what really made your Easter what it was?

Some of you may say, my Easter was boring, numbing, life giving, exciting for the first time in a while, same ol same ol, amazing, confusing, sad, lonely, powerful, etc… But why?

Continue to process what you celebrated yesterday.  So Jesus conquered death AND SIN? But what does that do to today? Now that the new outfit is back in the closet and tests and projects are on the horizon, what does a risen Savior mean to those things?

    Just processing along with you….
