Changing your major

We have a tendency to major in the minors. We get very into things that simply aren’t important.
The other night I laid in bed around 2:30am and my mind was just racing: finances, new community groups, college studetns, events… freaking out. But I woke up up 5 hours later realizing I was majoring in minors.
I think we all have a tendency to do this, we get focued on things that ultimately don’t add up to much.
In terms of Christianity we tend to get fired up about authors, church, rules, laws, worship style, etc… I’m afraid they are minor. A quick glance at the New Testament shows that Jesus majored in relationship.
A look at 3 scriptures showed Jesus kept pushing people to a relationship with himself. Mark 10- the disciples ask Jesus how to be the greatest- he answers and continue talking about going after the lost sheep: relationship! The rich young ruler in Luke 10- Jesus says, “Go sell everything (we focus on this part) and follow me (but I think Jesus was more interested in this guy following Him). ” The parable of the good samaritan- what do we do- love your neighbor- well who is my neighbor? Care for those around you. Relationship.
Jesus majored in relationships. He CAME to tell us that God is about relationship. The Old Testament shows us that the Jews were/are really good at religion but Jesus came to show us God (the trinity) is about relationships.
So will you major in a relationship with Jesus, not religion, a relationship with Jesus?
I’m just warning you- it is easier to major in religion- go to enough events, bible studies, ministries and you are really good at religion. You’ll have to fight for a relationship with Christ. Daily. Die to your desire for religion and choose relationship.
